 STEP 5.3

Complete the Quizzes on time, it is a Mandatory Requirement!

Here’s a helpful cheat sheet you can use to familiarize with the quiz . We strongly recommend parents to complete the quiz with their child and guide them along!

Arrive Early & Ready

Please arrive at least 20 minutes before the scheduled test time so your child can settle in and warm up. Parking and pool entry may take extra time — plan ahead so there’s no rush. Look out for Signs for SwimSafer Assessment at the selected pool, you may also ask Pool Staffs situated at the entrance of the pool for directions.

Bring the Right Gear

Must-haves: Goggles, swimwear, towel, and extra set of clothes for clothed swimming test (Stage 1 to 4 : T shirt and Shorts ; Stage 5 & 6: T shirt and Long pants).

Optional but helpful: A labelled water bottle and a small healthy snack for after the test.

Prepare Your Child for the Flow

The test is about 75 minutes and follows a set sequence. For Stage 1, your child may be asked to slide in, look for an object underwater (no picking up), back float, and signal for help. Higher stages involve different strokes, underwater swims, entries, and survival skills — their coach has been preparing them for these. Click here to see the requirements.

Understand Re-attempts

Assessors may allow up to 3 re-tries for certain skills, but this depends on time, the number of participants, and weather alerts. If lightning occurs within the first 30 minutes, the schedule may be adjusted, and re-attempts might not be possible.

Keep Calm & Encourage

Encourage your child to stay relaxed and do their best — the assessors are looking for safe technique and confidence in the water. Avoid giving last-minute instructions poolside; let them focus on what they’ve learned in class.

Safety Comes First

For back-floating and survival skills, assessors will ensure children don’t swim back to the pool wall unless instructed — this is part of the safety update. All entries (stride, straddle, compact jumps) will be done under assessor guidance for safety.

Record the Test (Optional)

You may wish to take a video of your child’s test from the viewing area. This can be useful in the rare event an appeal is needed, or simply as a keepsake of their achievement.

Celebrate Effort, Not Just Results

Pass or not, completing the SwimSafer test is a big step. Acknowledge your child’s effort, courage, and progress. If they need to retake a stage, it’s simply part of their learning journey

Swimsafer Test Criteria

Each SwimSafer stage has its own set of skills that students must demonstrate in order to pass. These skills are designed to test not just swimming ability, but also water safety, survival techniques, and confidence in the pool. The criteria are based on national standards and updated guidelines, ensuring that every child who passes is well-prepared to be safe in and around water.

Below, you’ll find the specific test items for your child’s stage. Reviewing them together before test day can help your child feel more confident and ready to shine.

SCENARIO

Stage 1 sequences introduce fundamental water skills, focusing on
developing confidence and independence in aquatic environments.

Sequence 1A integrates basic swimming techniques with essential safety skills, progressing from safe water entry to elementary strokes, floating, and distress signalling. It emphasises the transition between skills, building a foundation for water competency.

Swimsafer stage 1 test sequence 1a

Sequence 1B introduces Personal Flotation Device (PFD) usage, allowing learners to experience its buoyancy effect. Both sequences aim to cultivate water confidence, teach safe entry and exit techniques, and introduce forward and backward movements. This stage lays the groundwork for general and deep-end water safety, preparing learners for more advanced skills in subsequent stages.

Swimsafer stage 1 sequence 1b

SCENARIO

Stage 2 sequences build upon foundational skills, extending the focus
on fundamental water competencies.

Swimsafer stage 2 test Swim

Sequence 2A integrates a range of techniques, progressing from unassisted step entry to alternating between front and back swimming, floating, and treading water. It
introduces sculling and feet-first surface dives, thereby enhancing learners’ ability to manoeuvre in water.

Swimsafer stage 2 swim sequence

Sequence 2B further extends these skills to practical scenarios, incorporating clothed swimming and PFD usage. Both sequences emphasise personal water safety and adaptation to various aquatic environments. The stage aims to develop continuous swimming ability to 25 metres, marking an increase from Stage 1 requirements. This progressive approach prepares learners for more complex water scenarios in subsequent stages.

SwimSafer 2.0 Sequence 2B part 2

SCENARIO

Stage 3 sequences continue to advance learners’ capabilities,
integrating sustained swimming with crucial survival skills.

Swimsafer 2.0 Sequence 3 (swim)

Sequence 3A challenges swimmers to perform a deep-water entry, transition between survival backstroke and breaststroke over 50m, and demonstrate further water competencies like sculling and underwater navigation. This sequence emphasises adaptability and endurance in various aquatic situations.

Swimsafer 2.0 Sequence 3a

Sequence 3B simulates real- world scenarios by incorporating clothed swimming and in-water PFD fitting, culminating in an extended swim with the PFD. Both sequences build upon previous stages, requiring fluid transitions between skills and showcasing the learner’s increased confidence and proficiency in water. The focus on continuous 50m swimming and practical survival techniques marks a continued progression in the SwimSafer programme, preparing learners for more complex water scenarios in the subsequent stages.

Swimsafer sequence 3b

Scenario

Stage 4 sequences enhance swimmers’ endurance and survival
skills.

Swimsafer Bronze swim sequence

Sequence Bronze A challenges learners with deep-water entry, underwater manoeuvres, and extended treading water.

Swimsafer 2.0 sequence bronze A

Sequence Bronze B emphasises practical survival techniques, requiring swimmers to maintain continuous movement for 3 minutes using three survival strokes. This sequence develops the crucial ability to transition between strokes, promoting energy conservation and reducing muscle fatigue. Both sequences build on previous stages, introducing rescue awareness and simulating real-world survival scenarios. Stage 4 marks a significant advancement in the SwimSafer programme, preparing learners for extended water survival situations.

Swimsafer 2.0 Sequence Bronze B

SCENARIO

The Silver sequence in Stage 5 integrates advanced swimming techniques with critical survival skills, simulating a complex water emergency. It begins with a deep-water entry and backwards somersault, simulating the possibility of a disoriented body position after entering the water and almost immediately progressing to a challenging underwater swim at depth. The sequence then shifts to simulate escaping a sinking vessel, requiring a swift 45m front crawl. It culminates in practical survival techniques, including distress signalling, in-water PFD retrieval and fitting, demonstrating the H.E.L.P. technique, and swimming with the PFD. This comprehensive sequence builds on previous stages, emphasising efficient stroke techniques, underwater competence, and real-world survival scenarios, marking yet another challenging advancement in the SwimSafer programme.

SCENARIO

The Gold Sequence in Stage 6 represents the highest stage of the

SwimSafer 2.0 programme, combining advanced swimming proficiency with critical survival skills. It begins with a compact jump entry into deep water, followed by a head-first surface dive and extended underwater swim. The sequence then transitions to a sprint swim, simulating urgent escape, before shifting to a prolonged survival swim. A key feature is the in-water creation of a flotation device from clothing, demonstrating resourcefulness in emergency situations. The sequence culminates in executing the

H.E.L.P. technique with the improvised float and swimming with it. This comprehensive sequence integrates all previously learned skills, emphasising endurance, adaptability, and practical survival techniques in challenging aquatic scenarios.

If your child is unwell, keep them home and see a doctor. You will Submit a valid medical certificate through CAMS once results are posted. Once verified, you can rebook another slot at no extra cost.

No, once the coach has validated the stage and payment is made, you can’t change it. Our Coaches would have circled the SwimSafer stage on the Test card you received. Please confirm the correct stage with your coach before booking.

If the test is called off due to weather, it will be marked as a rain-off in CAMS. You can then rebook for another available date and venue. The stage remains the same.
If a rebooked test is also cancelled due to rain, you’ll need to reschedule again. Refunds aren’t given for weather cancellations.

No. Results are posted on CAMS within 48 hours of the test.

We have received feedback that sometimes results may take longer than 48 hours, in which case please enquire here : http://go.gov.sg/ssreport

Re-attempts aren’t guaranteed. Assessors consider factors like time limits, group size, weather, and safety.

No. Results aren’t discussed directly with assessors. Speak to your coach or file an official appeal on CAMS within 72 hours.

Log in to CAMS and go to “My Certificates” in your profile. Make sure both the practical and theory quiz were completed under the same profile.

They can retake it as many times as needed within 7 days after the practical test. The quiz can also be done before the test.

From our experience, its a best practice for the child to do the test with an parent/guardian. Please see STEP 5.3 for a useful resource for adults to facilitate the test.

You must finish within 7 days (or within the one-month extension if granted). If you miss the deadline, the practical result will be void. We Recommend parents to complete the quiz before the practical test.

Yes, its highly recommended to complete early, but the certificate is only issued once both practical and theory are completed.

No. Missing the extended deadline will void the practical result.

The recommended minimum age by Singapore Aquactics is 6 years old. However, our swim school may and will register younger children for assessment if they have demonstrated the necessary skills and confidence to meet the test requirements.

This decision will be made together with your child’s coach to ensure they are ready.

There are other certifications such as Lifesaving and Bronze medallions for pursuit. Some of our students also progressed to instructor level!

Once the CAMS migration is complete, they will be available online. For now, email swimsafer.enquiries@sgaquatics.org.sg for help.

Appeals must be submitted via CAMS within 72 hours of result release. Where possible, we recommend to video your child’s test performance in case evidence is needed.

If you need to change the date after booking:

You will have to register 1 account for each child, using a different email each time.
